Congregate Dining consists of eight dining centers located throughout Volusia County, which serves a hot, nutritious noon-time meal for seniors who are able to dine in a group setting. Consumers must be at least 60 years of age and must have a need for improved nutrition and socialization. Many of the seniors we serve live alone, have limited ability to cook, or lack the incentive to prepare nourishing meals. Last year, over 80,000 meals were served at the dining sites.

While nutrition is the primary goal of the program, seniors also benefit from social and recreational opportunities at each site. Activities include, but are not limited to, bingo, cards and games, music programs, exercise and educational speakers. No set fees are charged; however, each consumer is provided the opportunity to make a donation.

In addition to delivering meals, Meals on Wheels drivers encourage homebound seniors to eat, provide friendly conversation and report special needs. If  the volunteer does not receive a response from the client while delivering the meal, the office is notified and procedures are put into action to insure the client's well-being.

For many of our homebound seniors, the daily contact is as vital as the meal!

Last year, over 300,000 Meals on Wheels were delivered by an army of volunteers who unselfishly donated over 60,000 hours of service.

Meals on Wheels are provided to homebound seniors over the age of 60. The meals are from a varied menu and provide one third of the daily nutritional requirements, with no added salt, butter, seasons  or sugar. A hot meal is delivered by volunteers Monday through Friday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Frozen meals for weekend consumption can be provided based on individual need. This program has no set fee, but graciously accepts donations.

Arrangements can be made for a hot meal to be delivered Monday through Friday, around the noon hour to anyone over the age of 18. Delivery is directly to the client's residence, and the menu changes daily. This program requires a modest co-pay.
