Why Council on Aging has Fundraisers . . .
Each year the Council on Aging must raise funds to be used as “Match Dollars” so it can draw down Federal and State grants. Each dollar raised brings seven to nine more dollars to Volusia County up to the maximum value of the federal and state grants. Despite the many ways the Council raises money, there has never been enough to eliminate the waiting list for services, so every dollar counts. In 2006 approximately $158,000 was raised through various fundraisers.

  • Walk for Meals on Wheels and Other Elder Services - Compete as a team, family or individual to benefit COA Meals on Wheels and other Elder Care Services. This is no minimum amount of money you need to raise to enter the event; however a $20.00 minimum donation per walker is requested to receive a t-shirt .
     

  • 5K Run for Meals on Wheels and Other Elder Services - Join runners from across central Florida for the  annual 5K Run at LPGA International.
     

  • Champion of Champions Tennis Tournament  This tournament brings together tennis clubs in Volusia County, to compete for the honor of the “Champion of Champions” Cup, which they will display in their club for one year to proclaim their club as the Champion Club of Volusia County.
     

The Glenn & Connie Ritchey Community Service Award - The namesake award and first year honorees (2005), Glenn and Connie Ritchey, were the recipients for their longstanding civic, charitable and business leadership within Volusia County. Future annual awards will be presented as the “Glenn & Connie Ritchey Community Service Award”, and will be given to selected local community-minded leaders.
